Has anyone asked Groklaw (PJ) to change the Yahoo Board link to IV?

Groklaw.. SCO Financials.. Yahoo Finance Discussion Board.. should be changed to Investor Village Message Board SCOX. Has anyone asked PJ to make this change? It is based on good reasoning that Yahoo is now useless as the board activity has demonstrated in the last 48 hours and conversely this borad's 48 hour upstart has shown good standing. Just a thought, if someone would do the pleasure.

PJ is paranoid about lots certain things
Altough Yahoo can be relied to resist frivolous legal inquiries to protect the anonymity of its law-abiding members, and have done so in the past,
No such guarantees can be ascerted of Investor Village, although the seem courteous and responsive so far.
PJ mentionned the possibility of a IP addresses honeypot.

Pity Yahoo destroyed Y!SCOX.

Infosecgroupie quoting PJ: And I hope you don't either, until someone finds out who runs the place. Yahoo is one thing. We know their policy on subpoenas. This is a private player, folks. And we have absolutely no idea what that private player is playing.

Actually, I think her caution is actually valid.  If SCO or one of the trolls decided to subpoena IV, they may not be as upstanding as Yahoo has been.  This is a valid concern.

The info on this site even admits that the people running it may invest in stocks covered on some of these boards.  That power could be abused in many ways.

And, we know that this place can be used as an IP honeypot, not just by the owners, but by the posters.  See my message 242 on this board for proof, but only view it if you want to give me an IP address.  There's a web bug that points to a site I own there.

So, I think that caution is in order.  Now, anyone who's a regular knows my name, and my whois isn't obfuscated, so I'm not too concerned about giving IV my IP address, but I don't think that caution or questioning about it is a bad thing.

Of course, if you are that concerned I'd suggest setting up TOR instead of advising staying away completely.

This whole harvesting IP address thing is a total red herring.

I've currently got /* goes off, comes back */ 119mB of webserver logs on my dinky web site, chock full of either IP addresses or host names that I could convert into IP addresses.

That's how I got started tracking Merkey's movements.

Every friggin' web site on the goddamn planet does (or can do) this.

BFD.

If it's privacy you want (and I don't mean you specifically, Tim) stay off the f*cking Internet.

I don't think PJ is psychotic, just paranoid. And who can blame her after what she's been through? They're probably STILL after her, too -- she has to be careful. Her caution about subpoena policies is actually good advice; does it really matter how well-intentioned IV's founders might be if they lack Yahoo's or Google's financial and legal resources to fight off a pack of rabid lawyers being financed by lackeys of Microsoft?

MOG knows where she lives, and anyone who read that crap knows where she lives, and that includes Yarro and all those burnt investors. In fact, it was most probably them who handed it to MOG on a plate. They probably hired a private dick to look into the incorrect theory that Groklaw-PJ was the Jones who had worked for Novell, and when it turned out there was no dirt *at* *all* about Groklaw-PJ, they threw the work product to dopey Maureen out of spite. Despicable, I entirely agree.

But now the cat's out of the bag. "They" *know*. The question therefore becomes, from whom or what is PJ *now* hiding?

While you may be correct, I lean toward the fact that none of that information was ever confirmed by any other source. If all that information was wrong, that would explain why PJ react as she does.

*Nonsense*. Most of what MOG wrote is verifiable from publicly available sources, and there's much more which MOG was too stupid to find, which tends to suggest that it wasn't her who found what she reported. No, I won't share it, but it's out there for anyone to find. One verification I will share: did you spot the Medabiliti toolbar button on the screenshots PJ recently posted?
