Subject: Astroturfing question

I know that an example of astroturfing would be if I worked for Company A, and went on a bulletin board, and said about competitor Company B, that their products cause cancer or herpes or violated Company C's (or A's) intellectual property rights, without identifying myself as an employee or officer of Company A.

I'm aware that it's truly slimy behavior.

So my question is, is it illegal in the US?

I was thinking that ledite might be breaking some law with his ruthless shill behavior, but I guess not. If that WERE the case, freecode's coup would have him heading for Argentina to avoid prosecution, and THAT would explain his absence from the board. Instead, I think he's gone as a face-saving measure. And I suspect we've seen the last of him.

Twelve+ days since we've heard from him. Historically, he can't shut up for that long; the timeline:

2003-06-06 Yarro purchases $1.4 million SCOX stock. No, I don't think Yarro's ledite, just an interesting coincidence of timing. Of course that WOULD explain his absence, Ralphie's got a lot on his mind these days.

2003-06-18 ledite's first six posts

32 day gap

2003-07-21 to 2003-09-18 ledite posts in bunches. His general pattern is that he rarely posts on weekends.

7 day gap. Anything significant happen in this time period?

2003-09-26 to 2003-10-06 ledite posts in bunches.

10 day gap, which includes the quiet periods before an S-3 filed with the SEC, and the Baystar announcement.

2003-10-17 to 2003-11-13 ledite posts in bunches. He announces that he has closed out his position in SCOX stock, and goes away for a while.

2004-02-25 he's baaaack, anounces he's again taken up a small position in SCOX. Posts in bunches until 2004-03-09

We don't hear from him for a while. For lack of a better term, I'll call this his "rapist gap". He had every reason to go away forever.

2004-05-18 he couldn't help himself, and came back anyway. Continues to post in bunches ad infinitum.

2004-10-25 posts "Will Troll For Food - if this 52-week-low shit keeps up". Somewhere deep down inside, he has a sense of humor. Continues posting.

2005-03-04 ledite's last post. I think he's gone.

It would suck if I was wrong, but not as much as it sucks to be mein sweet leddie. Imagine... he's being tracked down by tens or hundreds of penguins & penguinistas. And cumulatively, we're never asleep. And motivated. And we won't stop until every player has been exposed and presented for justice. Unfortunately, we'll have to settle for legal consequences. It's a Legal system, not a Justice system.

And Biffie, you're next.
