I dunno, but I think msft may be skating on thin ice by going into the anti-malware biz.

Somebody may say: "msft is leaving these security holes wide open just to force us to buy msft anti-malware stuff."

More msft lawsuits may be on the way.

That is one way to look at it, however the software company he bought though only covers e-mail. The other way to look at it is msft has decided it does not have the talent to fix the problem in house, and brought in some experts.

The effect was predictable on Symantec and McAfee though, it tanked their stocks.

There has to be a lawyer, or three, that think they can get money for an anti-trust lawsuit in here.

Microsoft makes a buggy OS. Rather than fix the OS Microsoft now will SELL products to
1) remove spyware
2) protect the OS from viri

Would it not be better to fix the OS to make it not vulnerable to this problems. Or perhaps if the problem is the OS programabilty features that cannot be removed then these protections must be viewed as essential properties of the OS that should be included in the actual OS, the present market only exists because of the poor quality of the OS. Or that Microsoft will be able to exploit inside knowledge to the OS to make the tools work better than the competition.

Start the feeding frenzy!

The following was extracted from Brian Livingston's latest article regarding the efficacy of anti spy/ad/malware programs. It turns out that the most effective program, according to independent tests, Giant AntiSpyware which removed 63% of offending apps has been purchased by M$ and now *you* can't get it anymore in it's previously effective un-MStampered form.

It appears Microsoft has shut down most or all of the routes by which consumers could download and register Giant AntiSpyware, as opposed to the Microsoft AntiSpyware beta. The download link mentioned above, involving a product page at Download-ware.com (a former Giant Software Company sales affiliate) no longer works. If any reader knows a legitimate way to download and register a supported version of the genuine Giant AntiSpyware, let me know. I personally believe it's been killed dead.

Words can't express how disgusting M$ is to me so I wont even try.
