I've had a 17 yr old bottle of Ardbeg sitting unopened and waiting for the right occasion. Not that I had any particular occasion in mind, just that the breeching of such a wonderful liquid should not be done on a whim. However, after working my way about halfway through the legal filings from both sides that appeared today, after catching back up on the Yahoo board and reading PJ, I have decided this is a sufficient occasion.

It's not that the outcome of this fiaSCO has been in doubt for over a year. It's not that SCO has had any real hope for quite some time. It's just that after reading the legal documents, I realize that not only is the outcome obvious, but that it is going to happen in as it should in a classic tragedy--with a crushing, painful, drawn-out, unquestionable finality.

As I write this, I have an untasted fingerful of the Ardbeg by my keyboard. So, a toast: To IBM's legal team but also to the board here, PJ and Groklaw. I realize that there may be minor setbacks and disappointments in the future and that we will not always be living in the heady moments like nw, but the outcome is ever more certain now than it has ever been.

So, to all of you (and especially the Scots for inventing this fine elixir), SALUT!

Nice choice of Islay, that. As it happens I have some Ardbeg here, too. I had the good fortune to introduce another poster (who shall remain unnamed) to /real/ whiskey with the Ardbeg, and we'll join you now:

it is hard to believe how far we have come and all the outrageous news reports and upsets,the frustrations that we have all felt when we wondered if the truth would ever come out or was delay going to be forver?
oh logically we knew but emotionally it has been a roller coaster ride.
this has been history setting in the making and all here,and there and around the world participated
