Subject: how can anybody be bullish?

I have never held any position in SCOX. But, I am considering shorting.

How on earth can SCOX compete with Linux, FreeBSD, and other UNIX offerings? Finacial statemesnts look like a disaster.

Seems to me that, at best, SCOX can hang on to it’s current customers.

What am I missing? I am not trolling, I’m just new SCOX.

Only 100 shares.

UNIX dristo companies are suffering: SGI, SUNW, and SCOX. I don’t see anything that will change the trend.

For those who don’t know, thestreet.com is largly owned by hedge funds, especially rocker partners. If thestreet.com is bashing, it’s a safe bet that rocker is shorting.

This is more than enough reason to be short SCOX:

Earnings (ttm) -$0.35
Profit Margin (ttm) -5.2%
Operating Margin (ttm) -23.4%
Return on Assets (ttm) -8.48%

Subject: I’m surprised SCOX held up this well

The only thing SCOX had going for it was this desperation law suit. Now, it looks like SCOX doesn’t even have that.

I thought the market would totally dump. Instead SCOX is only down about 30% in two days.

Interesting to see what happens next.

SCOX down hard on HUGE volume. SCOX up modestly on on small volume. What’s going on, should be obvious.

Still news is what will really affect SCOX. If SCOX has some killer news, now is the time to release it.

Doesn’t look too good. SCOX giving away tens of thousands of shares to top execs at $0.001, and I’m SCOX does expense options.

Also, fairly strong insider selling since lawsuit.

When insider selling really picks up, we’ll all know it’s over for SCOX.

Looks like a few lucky insiders got over 200,000 shares @ $0.001 each on Feb 21 2003. This was right around the time this lawsuit was being planned.
The volume around the start of March 2003 is also over 600,000 shares for a few days. This is about 100 fold of SCOX normal daily trading from Sep 2002 thru Feb 2003.

Or does it depend on your particular broker?

I have never tried it, but I have heard that you can’t short a stock under $5.

I use freetrade.

Take a look at chart below. SCO has been losing market share for years, and there is nothing that turn it around. For those of you don’t know: that’s not a good thing.

This guy is just a troll.

Everybody know that IBM is always basing their business ventures on new age religion, right? All those old guys in blue suits and power ties just love that stuff.

And don’t forget about practically every other major computer company investing heavily in Linux, i.e.: Oracle, Hewlett Parkard, Sun, Dell, SGI, and so forth. Yea, those companies are all big on fadish products, right?

I have worked in IT over 20 years. I can tell you Linux is very serious business.

I’m happy to see the price go up. I covered the day before yesterday at 5.90. Now I have a sell short limit set at 7.95.

I am only trding 100 shares at a time. Way too volitile at this time to risk any serious money. I only hope that when the smoke clears, I’ll be able to short some SCOX for real money.

Subject: OT: I remember when IBM scoffed at UNIX

I started working with mainframes in 1979. In the early 80’s IBM scoffed at unix, considering their own mainframe OS’s to be far supperior to that hacked together OS. Actually, at the time, ibm wasn’t too far from wrong. Of course, there was also that famous ibm snobbish “not invented here” syndrom.

When IBM did finally come out with AIX, I think IBM considered it a niche product. I guess that’s why IBM only paid for the standard $10 million unix licence, instead of the deluxe $100 million unix licence. Sun bought the deluxe licence.
