Isn't Windows 20000 supposed to be secure? One of these days we will wake up and find all our most secret financial information, health data and credit card numbers passed around like cheap novels on the 'Net. Perhaps it's time for Microsoft to stand back for a moment and build a secure OS before it starts taking care of (but not responsibility for) this private information. Best regards, The Other Brian

Maybe they should actually read Win2K manuals. Maybe you should stop spreading lies about Win 2000 and its security. I'm really getting sick of asking you the same question again, but why doesn't somebody hack www.microsoft.com ? If it's so insecure as you say, than how come it hasn't been hacked yet ? Especially knowing that this is every hacker's dream. And please don't tell me that it was hacked, because it wasn't. The whole linux movement is based on lies.

My Linux test box has been > unplugged for 3 months now! > :-) You should DL and try Slackware 8.0 - complete with the free Slackware book. I am not much of a Linux GUI person and quite frankly didn't enjoy any of the common Linux desktops. I can now say that with the advent of KDE 2.2 KOffice 1.1rc1 and multiple choices for browser, that Linux has arrived on the desktop. Development is moving at an incredible rate and KDE 3.0 should be out by the new year. We may also expect to see Linux 2.5 kernel development to begin shortly. I have installed KDE on a handful of desktops for some of my clients and plans are in place to upgrade almost all Windows 95 desktops to KDE. The cost of installation is almost identical to Windows 2000 but no licence fees and less hardware to upgrade (mostly memory upgrades). Some desktops will have to remain Microsoft but there are no plans to upgrade them beyond 98se - no W2K because of hardware/legacy software issues. Microsoft sure stepped on their dick with Windows 2000! As you are aware, I switch back and forth beteen Windows 98se and Slackware 8.0 with KDE 2.2 so I am familiar with both. The biggest problem with moving back to Windows is the limitation o a single desktop - in KDE, I have 6 and I use all of them. Another thing that KDE has is the aability to roll up a running application to just it's title-bar. Double-tapping the title bar brings the windows back down to it's origianl size. Another thing I love is the stability in Linux - I have 16-24 apps/utils/consoles open at any one time - I am using only 2/3rds of available memory (~400megs) and it is rock-solid compared to Windows 98se. KDE is still not as stable as the Linux CLI but it is worlds better than Windows. Best regards Brian (MVP), The Other Brian ps- Have a great weekend!
