I have had numerous ISPs including xDSL, Rogers@Home, dialups and now Shaw@Home (the best to date - 4.5 Mb/s). During all these changes and different ISPs I have maintained the same email address sub...@post.com with a free mail service from mail.com that forwards all my mail to any email address I give it or operates as a web mail service if forwarding is turned off. It's fast, free and has given me the same email address all these years. They have a number of domain names including @mail.com @post.com etc. There are many free email portals that will allow you to forward all your mail to whatever email address your provider gives you. I recommend this to all my clients and those that have tried this type of service are very pleased with the results. ISPs come and go and some are better than others. A stable email address is an excellent asset. Hotmail will vaporize an email address if you haven't picked up your mail for 90 days whereas I have addresses going back years where I may not have a look for a year (I have a total of about a dozen email addresses all told). Here is a short list to check out; www.mail.com (free forwarding) www.amexmail.com (more services if amex cardholder) www.yahoo.com (mail forwarding & pop3 access) There are many others and many combinations of features. The problem with Hotmail and perhaps MSN mail is they are non-standard and are subject to frequent failure. Let me ask one question, if you upgrade (smile) to MSN's web based mail and news service, are your messages and posts automatically stored on your machine or are they stored on a Microsoft machine? Best regards, Brian (the other Brian)

What "webmail standard" is that? What standards body has issued a standard specification for web based email? Are you talking about the Hotmail web mail system developed by the FreeBSD community and then embraced and extended by Microsoft so no other mail agent can read it other than Microsoft products? Is that the proprietary standard you are referring to? Microsoft up to it's old tricks, once again! Best regards, Brian (the other Brian)

That is an amazing piece of spin Paul. Who do you work for,? What is you job description? Do you know anything about computers and operating systems? > But, they try to keep the legacy users happy. Does Debra sound happy to you? Aren't you concerned with the incompetance of the MSN help personel? Microsoft is simply trying to lock people into a proprietary Microsoft technology that is inferior and less secure than the world standard POP3 and SMTP - both standards that are ruled by Unix type operating systems with FREE universally available applications - sendmail for one.. So Paul, what do you do? You don't have much of a feel for the truth so I'm guessing you are a lawyer or a senior PR person. One thing is certain, you don't know computers or operating system technology. Best regards, Brian (the other Brian)
