That is not a problem. >Slackware Distribution designed and assembled by Patrick Volkerding. Mature and effective command line and GUI distribution. Excellent installation procedures and easy maintenance through traditional utilities. >Debian Distribution assembled by closed group of talented and dedicated programmers and Linux gurus. Installation is not as intuitive as one may hope but good systems integration and growing support in Linux community. >Caldera lite (why is it called lite?) The CD is several grams lighter than it's fellows. Also, there are a few utilities that are dated to die 90 days after installation (an X-window manager and a GUI editor). The full version has no such time limits. Closely related to the RedHat distribution. >Red Hat Easy to install - much hand holding during installation and very fine X-windows manager with preconfigured utilities. Very good package for GUI user not particularly interested in command line Linux. >All latest versions. Which one should I install, with justification? Justification? >Thanks >Rob (rep...@dircon.co.uk) All versions use the same community of kernels, utilities and applications. They are just arranged, packaged and install differently. Take the time to try them all - that is what I did (also FreeBSD 2.2.2). I typically have 2 or 3 different partitions occupied by different distributions (just one swap partition which all distributions share). I always have one partition occupied by Slackware (my personal favorite). I use it as my 'Mechanno Set' learning system - Just keep coming back to it so it stays full time. Read - explore - learn - have fun. Brian.
