No, you install them in different partitions on the harddisk, and
they won't even know of each others existence.

Yes. Look at the Linux HOWTO's.

Dear Unknown!
No you cannot run unix/linux on the same machine as windows 95 (even
though there are rumors). If you call Microsoft they will tell you
that I'm right!
There are no resources on the net about how to bring those ridiculous
rumors to life. Not even this newsgroup :)

Ummm, just look in the HOWTO's... for example in
comp.os.linux.answers.

umm, I hope you are being sarcastic..

to the original poster,
just make a primary partition for linux and a logical one for
linux swap.. when you install linux, setup lilo in the mbr and use it to
choose between linux and win95(or anything else),

Well,

System Commander is at least one way to bring those "ridiculous rumors" to
life .... making them "wonderful realities"

 two points:
  1. LILO works just dandy to boot Linux and Win95 (e-mail me for info)
  2. DOS FDISK.EXE has un undocumented feature (no pun intended) which
will replace the MBR on drive 0. Just say "fdisk /mbr".

Hi Greg:

Just checked DOS 6.22 help file and FDISK.EXE /? (W95 version) and there
was no mention of the /mbr switch.

Have never seen it in an official MS DOS manual.

MS has made mention of the switch on it's on-site knowledge base record but

that was in the NT4 section, not DOS.

I also run a mutli-boot system: W95 osr2, NT4 server (service pack 3),
RedHat 4.1, and Slackware 3.2.

I boot the 2 Linux systems from linload floppies (NT server prefers it that
way)
and use PQBoot to select W95 or NT4.

NT4 has the 1st pri. part. of the 1st hd.

Regards,

Brian.
